World Environment Day – the largest international day dedicated to the environment. Created in 1973 by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), it has become the biggest environmental outreach, involving the global community across 150 countries in finding solutions to today’s most pressing environmental challenges.

Each year, one country hosts the global celebrations to commemorate the day, and in 2025, they are being held in the Republic of Korea. The theme for 2025 is #BeatPlasticPollution as plastics have polluted almost every aspect of life—seeping into our water, food, and bodies.
World Environment Day joins the UNEP-led #BeatPlasticPollution to rally worldwide communities to adopt and support impactful solutions to this issue. This year’s World Day points out the growing scientific evidence of the effects of plastic pollution in our world and is centered on garnering support for actions that “refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink the use of plastics.”
In observance of World Environment Day 2025, Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education is organising a webinar under the aegis of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE. The webinar will be chaired by Secretary, DoSEL and other dignitaries.
The webinar is aimed at fostering greater awareness and action against this pressing environmental challenge. Request your support in disseminating webinar link to all schools and encouraging widespread participation from students.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, i.e., 5th June, 2025, Hon’ble Education Minister will launch “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0”. The event will be live streamed on You Tube.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced that 14,500 schools across the country will be developed and upgraded under the PM-Shri scheme. The scheme was announced by the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in June 2022.
Key Points
These schools will become the model schools of the country, which will be in line with the core spirit of the National Education Policy and will emphasize on innovative methods of teaching.
These schools will be equipped with modern infrastructure including labs, smart classrooms, libraries, sports equipment, art rooms etc., which are inclusive and accessible.
These schools will also be developed as green schools with integration of water conservation, waste recycling, energy efficient infrastructure and organic lifestyle in the curriculum.
At least one PM Shri School will be established in every block of the country. So that the children of common people can also get the opportunity of good education and they do not have to go far for studies.
Under this scheme, one secondary and senior secondary school will also be connected in each district of the country.
Assessment at all levels of the school will be based on conceptual understanding and application of knowledge in real life situations and will be competency based.
These schools will not only aim at qualitative teaching, learning and cognitive development, but will also create holistic and well-rounded individuals equipped with key skills of the 21st century.
Swachhata Pakhwada isa Government of India initiative to promote cleanliness and sanitation across the country.It started in April 2016, and has become a successful mass movement with millions of people participating each year.
The 2024 Swachhata Pakhwada will be held from September 1–15. Some of the objectives of Swachhata Pakhwada include:
Improving hygiene: To further existing measures to ensure hygiene and create a mindset of zero tolerance towards anything unhygienic
Celebrating sanitation workers: To celebrate the health and dedication of sanitation workers
Launched under the Swachh Bharat Mission, this fortnight-long(1st Sept 2024 to 15th Sept 2024) campaign is observed by different ministries, departments, and organizations across India to emphasize the importance of cleanliness.
